Ken Lepin Prize of Excellence in Education
Bachelor of Kinesiology 2020
During my first year of university, I was uncertain about my academic pursuits and explored various subject areas. It was during this period that I discovered my passion for kinesiology – a discipline that delves into the mechanics of human movement and physiology. This newfound interest eventually propelled me towards physical education, where I enrolled in courses such as Teaching Swimming, Track and Field, Dance, and Gymnastics, among others. These practical courses enabled me to work closely with students, hone my lesson planning and unit design skills, and gain insight into the importance of physical activity for individuals of all ages. My studies taught me that the promotion of holistic well-being (physical, mental, spiritual, vocational, etc.) through physical education is paramount, especially for younger individuals. As I progress in my academic journey, I aspire to empower individuals to become lifelong learners and to embrace a physically active lifestyle that nurtures all seven dimensions of health and well-being.
Bachelor of Education (Elementary)
- Expected Graduation: June 2023
My academic trajectory has expanded beyond physical education to encompass elementary education, where I am actively cultivating my skills as an inclusive educator and seeking to indigenize my classroom. This program has granted me invaluable opportunities to gain practical classroom experience and develop a nuanced understanding of pedagogical practices. I have found great fulfillment in collaborating with colleagues and exploring diverse perspectives, as their distinct backgrounds and experiences have broadened my own perspective on education. As a result of this program, I am beginning to discover my own passion for education, and relish the sense of fulfillment that comes from providing students with the tools and strategies to flourish and succeed.
